17 Jul Video Marketing Mistakes Can Cost You
Marketing is not easy. There are many complex and elaborate techniques to reach your intended audience. All of it can be very overwhelming when you try to incorporate video production into your marketing campaign. The best way to approach video marketing is to know what not to do. Here are some things to avoid.
Go easy on the stock video and imaging. Don’t get me wrong, stock material can be a lifesaver and send a great message, but you can get too excited and go for a “cool” look and miss the point. Stock video providers Dissolve had a great video poking fun at the overuse of stock video, you can check it out HERE.
Just throwing imaging and content without your branding and strategy in mind can be confusing and vague to the audience. In a recent survey, over 90% of people agreed when asked if they would watch videos about products they are interested in. You need to make sure your video is getting the point across or those potential buyers will move on.
Another frequent video mistake is going too promo heavy. The viewer doesn’t need a “pitch”, they want information and engagement. You already have their interest, don’t be pushy with sales buzzwords or generic content, show them the what, where and why of the product or service.
Lastly, use common sense. Trying to be out-of-the-box or edgy doesn’t mean ridiculous or insensitive. Remember that your best marketing tool is having your audience share and spread the word for you. But those same folks can be very critical and no longer is the term “any publicity is good publicity” valid. Remember that “magical” video with Mark Zuckerberg and Rachel Franklin in avatar form touring devastated post-hurricane Puerto Rico? Ya, that video will never be shared for the value of VR, it was a PR disaster.
Video will always be a critical part of your marketing campaign, use it wisely and you’ll benefit from the results. Feel free to contact our team here at Mockingbird Studios if you would like to incorporate video in your next marketing campaign.
